A New Standard in Dry Eye Treatment

Smart Dry Eyes uses structured, technology-driven therapy protocols — not guesswork. Each treatment is matched to the result of your diagnosis, targeting the specific cause behind your condition.

The goal is lasting, measurable improvement in comfort, tear quality, and visual stability — not just temporary relief. All treatments are non-invasive and performed in-office.

Infrared Light Therapy

Gentle infrared warming liquefies thickened secretions in blocked meibomian glands, making them easier to release in subsequent treatment steps. The heat also stimulates the glands to produce fresh secretions.

Duration: Approximately 10–15 minutes

Comfort level: Gentle warming sensation

Downtime: None

Best for: Thick, obstructed meibomian gland secretions

Eyelid Cleansing

Eyelid Cleansing

In meibomian gland disease or blepharitis, gland openings can become blocked by thickened secretions or bacterial biofilm. Using specialized tools, your provider painlessly cleans and exfoliates the lid margins, clearing the debris that’s blocking oil flow to your tear film.

Duration: ~ 5 minutes

Comfort level: Painless; mild tickling sensation possible

Downtime: None – immediate improvement in lid hygiene

Best for: Blepharitis, biofilm buildup, inflamed eyelid margins

Meibomian Gland Expression

After cleansing, specialized forceps apply gentle, controlled pressure to clear remaining blockages within the gland ducts — releasing the oils your tear film needs to stay stable.

Duration: ~5 minutes

Comfort: Brief pressure sensation, well tolerated

Tixel

Tixel

This FDA-approved device delivers targeted heat impulses along the lid margin to stimulate meibomian oil production and secretion. Ten impulses are applied across each eyelid.

Duration: 2–5 minutes

Comfort level: Short, controlled hot pulses are generally well tolerated; numbing ointment available if needed

Downtime: Mild redness and warmth are possible for a few hours

Best for: Meibomian gland stimulation

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)

Controlled light pulses are directed at lid margins to reduce inflammation and improve gland function. A protective hydrogel is applied beforehand, and eye protection is provided throughout.

Duration: 5-10 minutes

Comfort level: Warm flashes, well tolerated

Downtime: Slight redness possible; no restrictions

Best for: Ocular rosacea with lid margin teleangiectasis

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)
Low-level Light Therapy (LLLT)

Low-level Light Therapy (LLLT)

Specialized red and blue LEDs reduce inflammation and stimulate cellular activity in the eyelid glands. Non-invasive and completely painless.

Duration: 10–15 minutes

Comfort level: Relaxing light exposure

Downtime: None

Best for: Inflammatory-driven dry eye
